SCarT
SCarT
Cara Brophy Browne, Susan Birmingham, and Tim Leech Cleary are the founders of SCarT. SCarT is a research and performance collective passionate about telling uncomfortable stories. Cara, Susan and Tim have been collaborating for the past decade. This collaboration has brought about academic publications, site specific performance art, and a number of documentary theater pieces. In 2017 SCarT members created THE RE/PRESENTATION WORKSHOPS, a documentary theater performance created in collaboration with LGBTQI refugees in Greece [EMBROS Theater Athens, 2017, A4 Sound Studios, Dublin, 2018]. Between 2016 and 2018 members of the collective created The WIN, a documentary theater performance about the hidden history of the struggle for reproductive rights in Ireland based on original archival and oral history research [Scene and Heard Festival, 2016, Bread and Roses Festival, 2017, National Tour, 2018. Most recently SCarT have turned their attention to the history of the Magdalene Laundries. In 2023 the collective collaborated with a Galway based feminist collective to programme an evening of music and performance to commemorate the Galway Magdalene Laundry survivors. In honour of this occasion SCarT developed an adaptation of Patricia Burke Brogan's Eclipsed.

The WIN was a devised piece headed by Cara Brophy Browne, with both Susan and Tim also working on the piece in the roles of sound design and general production. The WIN toured around Ireland just before the referendum to repeal the 8th Amendment of the constitution, the amendment which criminalised those seeking an abortion, those receiving or performing an abortion, or those travelling for an abortion.
